Netscape Communicator 6 Setup


MAIL SETTINGS.

Netscape 6 was written from scratch unlike previous versions of Netscape where code was simply appended. After writing the program, it was decided to skip version 5 and move on with 6.

 

Click on the Envelope down the bottom left hand corner to activate Netscape Mail. In order the Icons represent the following:


* Netsacpe Navigator
* Netscape Mail.
* AOL Instant Messenger
* Netscape Composer
* Address Book.


After going into the mail section, Click on EDIT
followed by MAIL AND NEWS PREFRENCES from the drop down menu.
This will bring up the account settings as shown above.

Click on NEW ACCOUNT and the wizard will commence. See Below.

the best selection here is ISP OR EMAIL PROVIDER.
Click this followed by NEXT.

Fill in the Display name and email adress.

Your email address should be your username followed by
@froggy.net.au.net.au (for froggy.net.au pre-paid clients) or
@froggy.net.au (for froggy.net.au clients)

so if you are a froggy.net.au client your email address will be username@froggy.net.au

The server type should be POP.
Your Incoming Server name should be :
mail.froggy.net.au (for froggy.net.au clients) or
mail.froggy.net.au.net.au (for froggy.net.au pre-paid clients)

Next, enter the username or the client.

The account name is simply an identifying name
Anything can be entered here such as 'Simons Mail' or the like.

Netscape will then give you confirmation on the details entered. Click Finish

After the wizard finishes, you need need to configure the smtp server (this is the address that mail will go to when you send mail)
No matter how many accounts are setup in netscape, they will all use the same outgoing mail server.
Enter the outgoing mail server name for you account where it says smtp server name:
for froggy.net.au pre-paid clients : smtp.froggy.net.au.net.au
for froggy.net.au clients : smtp.froggy.net.au

Once you return to the main messenger screen, Click on GET MSG to be prompted for the password. The Mail will now be retrieved and ready to read.
